Patrick Bird is a Sr. Manager of Scientific Affairs at bioMérieux, collaborating with industry and regulatory agencies to develop and advance science based standards and regulations.  Pat has 18+ years’ experience in the validation of microbiology analytical test methods coordinating more than a 100 validations studies following AOAC, ISO, Health Canada and EPA validation guidelines.

Pat served as the primary author for the microbiology chapter (Laboratory Safety and Compliance Testing for Microorganism Contamination) in the Cannabis Laboratory Fundamentals textbook and has presented numerous webinars and at scientific conferences (AOAC, IAFP, MJBiz Con, IFT) on microbiology validation for the food and cannabis industries.

Pat has been an active member of ISO TC34 (food)/SC9 (Microbiology)/WG3 (method validation) and serves on several technical working groups, including IAFP’s subgroup on Method Validation and Verification, ASTM D37 for Cannabis Methods, and the MicroVal Technical Committee.

Pat holds a BS in microbiology from the Ohio State University and a MS in Food Safety from Michigan State University
